Footprints – Specialist counselling for anyone affected by the loss of a pregnancy, infant, or child.

Footsteps has been set up after a therapist’s lived experience of child loss. It was quickly recognised that even with a great counsellor, there was something missing when trying to navigate the loss of a child, be it in pregnancy, at birth, or later.

Many people talk about bereaved parents being in the club nobody wants to be a member of, and often grieving parents find the most comfort in communities with other bereaved parents, a place where they feel truly understood. Whilst these connections remain invaluable, families often need professional support too, and so it made sense that personal experience and professional skills and expertise should come together, and that is where Footsteps began.

At Footsteps the uniqueness of the grief experienced by the loss of a child is truly understood. The clinical processes and language, the difficult decisions that have to be made, and planning to say goodbye. From the immediate days, to the first milestones and anniversaries. We know that finding a ‘new normal’ after the death of a child is neither linear, or easy.

At Footsteps, you will be supported by a professional therapist who is trained to specialise in helping families to navigate the path of life after the loss of a child.

If you are thinking about getting support after the loss of a child, please do contact us via email and we will arrange a short telephone call. On this call you may just want to tell us a little about the child who has died, how you are feeling, or you may have many questions about what we can offer; all of that is very natural.

After the first call, you are encouraged to have some time to think about if you would then like to arrange a first counselling session. There is no pressure to do so, and no rush. If you would like more information, email us at enquiries@wcps.co.uk.
